This week marks the 5th anniversary of my autoimmune diagnosis.
That fateful day that ended with me in a hospital bed, hooked up to various machines, awaiting the answers as to why I had been feeling so ill and so sad, so weak and so stressed for so many months. My diagnosis was Graves Disease, or autoimmune hyperthyroid; the same condition my Mom developed at the same age, and her grandmother developed also. Finally, I had some answers.

Spring is a time of renewal, and Mother Nature has provided everything we need to shed Winter’s layers and open ourselves up to sunshine and increased activity. Perhaps ironically, autoimmune flares often happen during seasonal transitions such as this, so it is helpful to have transitional plants and tools on hand to help us move through these setbacks and heal again. The autoimmune community has recently lost a very dear friend and leader. Today, with very heavy hearts, the AIP blogging community is coming together to share the painful loss of one of our own, Martine Partridge of Eat Heal Thrive, and to celebrate the enormous impact of her life on each of us. Spring is finally upon us here on the West Coast, and signs of it are starting to creep up in other parts of the country. Spring flowers are my absolute favourite delight because they are the first pop of colour since Autumn leaves, and the light pink, yellow, purple and white complement the bright glow of fresh greenery oh so well – Mother Nature certainly has her colour coordinating on point!
