In today’s high-tech world of health and medicine, it’s becoming increasingly easy to fall through the cracks. With factors such as increased rates of chronic illness, higher costs, less funding, and less doctors per number of patients, you can become just a number. It can take months, or even years to be diagnosed, which is frustrating and debilitating. Do you struggle to get the medical help you need? Are you ready to take charge of your own health? No more need for Google searches or second-guessing – welcome to The Autoimmune Healing n=1 Workbook Kit! Read more
Getting more vegetables into my body has often seemed like a chore. Sometimes the thought of making another salad, chewing another salad, and trying to digest another salad is just too much – and so sometimes chocolate for dinner just happens (am I right?). Read more
I recently realized that Living Lovely Autoimmune is gaining traction and turning into much more than some humble ramblings on my journey with an autoimmune disease. In light of this I should probably introduce myself properly, and fill you in on what it’s all about! Read more
New Year resolutions are in full swing, and everyone is exercising, changing diets, detoxing, and juicing like there’s no tomorrow. Not to mention that after the Golden Globes the other night, we are all wistfully thinking about fitting into those gorgeous dresses and suits, and hankering after that ridiculously perfect glow all the stars seem to carry around with them like handbags.
In light of this, today’s topic is juicing. Read more
Today I’m going to do something a little bit different and share a lovely post from health blogger Sara of Ms. Health Esteem! Despite having Graves Disease, she is a super amazing lady with an infallible zest for life that is incredibly contagious. She has a knack for saying just what you need before you even realize you need it and this post is certainly indicative of that.
Do you struggle to eat well throughout the week due to fatigue or time constraints? Are you a slave to the kitchen or the takeout menus all week long? I love cooking for the most part, but many people do not. Either way, many of us simply have zero time on weekdays, or are too fatigued from illness to stand for that long, let alone prep three meals a day. When trying to eat healthily, whether for managing an illness, trying to prevent one, or simply wanting to feel better day to day, it can feel like cooking food is taking over your life.
It doesn’t have to be this way! Read more
I’ve been struggling with detoxing lately due to some thyroid chaos and who knows what else (I’ll post about this later as I’m still trying to figure it out), which means I’ve been stinking pretty bad and NOTHING will touch it – not any deodorant or essential oil, and baking soda is giving me MAJOR rashes. This may be TMI for most conversations, but I KNOW that some of you out there are struggling with this too. Even “healthy” people can smell bad! Read more
I am constantly immersed in nutrition these days via school and what I like to call my “autoimmune renovation”, so I don’t always realize when something isn’t “common knowledge”. But after overhearing someone say that they “eat very well, so food can’t be the reason I’m bloated”, I realized that even the basics aren’t commonly known, nor does everyone understand exactly why proper digestion and overall digestive health is even important.
So here is an initial stab at explaining some of the more basic functions of our digestive systems and some reasons as to how and why we may be hindering these functions. If you manage to stay with me for that, then following I have listed 10 tips and tricks for troubleshooting your gut-rooted problems (which is actually most health problems!). Read more
I was never a cauliflower person. Not when I was a kid, and not now as an adult. But I was raised to eat at least some of everything on my plate, so I have eaten my fair share in my life thus far. I remember one very unfortunate soup that my grandmother made (and then my Mom made again at home, much to my chagrin!) which contained three of my least favourite vegetables: cauliflower, corn and mushrooms. It was like eating a bowl of dirty socks, while everyone around me exclaimed on the delicious depth of flavour and nourishing heaviness. I thought I might die, but I ate it until I finally felt comfortable enough (or was it desperate enough?) to tell my mother just how much I hated it! Read more

In true Fall fashion, I’m heading back to school this week along with millions of other students. Though I technically took classes all summer, I feel ready for a fresh semester with new classes, new insights, and new inspiration. I truly love this time of year, with its changing colours and cooler temperatures, but I have a really rough time with the darkness that is creeping in all to quickly. A lack of sunshine paired with a more stationary body and a massive need for brain energy calls for always having an energy-boosting snack on hand for emergencies. Read more
