Recipe Roundup – Veggies For Breakfast!

Getting more vegetables into my body has often seemed like a chore. Sometimes the thought of making another salad, chewing another salad, and trying to digest another salad is just too much – and so sometimes chocolate for dinner just happens (am I right?). Read more

Armpit Adventures + Detox Mask

I’ve been struggling with detoxing lately due to some thyroid chaos and who knows what else (I’ll post about this later as I’m still trying to figure it out), which means I’ve been stinking pretty bad and NOTHING will touch it – not any deodorant or essential oil, and baking soda is giving me MAJOR rashes. This may be TMI for most conversations, but I KNOW that some of you out there are struggling with this too. Even “healthy” people can smell bad! Read more

10 Tips + Tricks for Improving Digestive Health

digestive health lemon water

I am constantly immersed in nutrition these days via school and what I like to call my “autoimmune renovation”, so I don’t always realize when something isn’t “common knowledge”. But after overhearing someone say that they “eat very well, so food can’t be the reason I’m bloated”, I realized that even the basics aren’t commonly known, nor does everyone understand exactly why proper digestion and overall digestive health is even important.

So here is an initial stab at explaining some of the more basic functions of our digestive systems and some reasons as to how and why we may be hindering these functions. If you manage to stay with me for that, then following I have listed 10 tips and tricks for troubleshooting your gut-rooted problems (which is actually most health problems!). Read more

Roasted Garlic Cauliflower Hummus

I was never a cauliflower person. Not when I was a kid, and not now as an adult. But I was raised to eat at least some of everything on my plate, so I have eaten my fair share in my life thus far. I remember one very unfortunate soup that my grandmother made (and then my Mom made again at home, much to my chagrin!) which contained three of my least favourite vegetables: cauliflower, corn and mushrooms. It was like eating a bowl of dirty socks, while everyone around me exclaimed on the delicious depth of flavour and nourishing heaviness. I thought I might die, but I ate it until I finally felt comfortable enough (or was it desperate enough?) to tell my mother just how much I hated it! Read more

Green Ginger Energy Balls

***This recipe was recently featured on Live Well Collective! Check it out!***

In true Fall fashion, I’m heading back to school this week along with millions of other students. Though I technically took classes all summer, I feel ready for a fresh semester with new classes, new insights, and new inspiration. I truly love this time of year, with its changing colours and cooler temperatures, but I have a really rough time with the darkness that is creeping in all to quickly. A lack of sunshine paired with a more stationary body and a massive need for brain energy calls for always having an energy-boosting snack on hand for emergencies. Read more

AIP Pesto Flatbread

In case you hadn’t figured out from my multiple pesto recipes and variations, I seriously love basil! Seriously. But I’ll be brief so you can get to the recipe!

Nutritionally, basil is a pretty good source of Vitamin A (beta-carotene), potassium, and even calcium, while containing smaller amounts of many other vitamins and minerals integral to good health. But basil is more than a culinary delight. Read more

Blood Building + Strawberry Beet Cacao Smoothie

If you ever have problems with scanty periods, iron deficiency, pallor and low energy, or you have a chronic illness that depletes everything you’ve got, blood building may be a good dietary goal for you. This doesn’t mean scarfing all the red meat (though this is incredibly helpful for getting heme-iron into your system). Plenty of plant foods can help build blood by deeply nourishing your cells and providing you the right building blocks for creating the essentials – like your blood! Read more

Homemade Herbal Deodorant

I have been making my own deodorant for a few years now. When I started developing eczema, hives and angry rashes in my second year of Graves, I stopped being able to wear any deodorant on the market…even plain old Dr Mist gave me a rash and rock crystals simply failed to work. Read more

Dandelion Basil Pesto (2 ways)

Spring is well in bloom on the Canadian West Coast. Cherry blossoms sprung up suddenly on Valentine’s Day, daffodils are waving happily, and tulips can be spotted in the sunnier gardens. Dandelions have also begun to show their bright faces, and I found my first bunched leaves at the store today. Time for deep cleansing…and pesto! Read more
